I kinda like DevArt a little more then I used to.

I used to be pretty bitter do to certain people and their whoreishness, and I know occasionally I can get some pretty n00b comments, but I guess this place IS a lot more how you say... I guess honest to say the least; and courteous.

Imagine if I posted something similar to the recent BG Summer Art Trade I did on YT, or at least, a video counterpart. I'd be torn UP. People here at least have the courtesy to say something either sportively, kindly, or say nothing at all if they don't care for it. Cause I KNOW BG's aren't my thing, and I KNOW it's not the norm, but on YT it'd getting rubbed in my face.

OMFG IT SUX CUZ ITS DIFFRENT.

I like the 'If you can't say anything nice...' saying. But then again, I also like the 'If you cut me, I cut you.' thing too XD I dunno. Constructive critisism is always 100% better then just a flame. I even recently got a tip from a nice gal on my ID drawing when everyone else (ironically XD) pretty much made fun of a certain way I drew something. She helped me, and now it looks better. Sure, sometimes not ALL constructive critisism can be 'correct' like maybe something was done on purpose and just doesn't appeal to all, but that doesn't mean they weren't trying either.

So I guess save for the new ID ordeal, people here have been pretty cool. So thanks everyone, keep on.... keepin' on. Shake and bake XD

Hum, I think I felt the same when I came here to DA =D
I used to be on TheOtaku.com, another fanart site, and well, how can I say... I was pretty impopular '-' Not that it had changed much, but the thing is that I made a lot of nice friends here, that support me and like my art. ^^ And at least, I get a little bit more favorites and comments here than there :XD:

It seems like no matter where you go now, it's becoming more and more...hostile, just as you describe YT. And then of course there are those Chain messages...

But DA is completely different, here at least we have respect for each other...most of the time.

The thing I really notice to, and I wonder if you'd agree, is that people on DA tend to be older. Because most people here are ACTUALLY artists (or, in my case, mass doodlers XD), they tend to be more sensitive to flaming other people's works. Plus, since DA is all about diversity, and there really isn't much of a "reputation" that members feel pressured to hold up to, people are more open to other members trying new things.

Perhaps it has something to do with age and maturity level? YT members tend to aimlessly wander and watch videos, but DA members (usually) had initially joined to post their own artwork as well as look at other works. :) But I'm just speculating, so feel free to disagree.

I've always thought DeviantArt was a lot better than YouTube, simply because everyone IS a hell of a lot nicer on here. I mean, if you post something that REALLY sucks, they'll post something constructive rather than just post a retarded comment on it. I dunno. Maybe it's because most people on here are real artists, instead of just teenage fuck-wits who have nothing better to do than flame someone. :)

I think the people on youtube for the most part, think it's funny to be jerks and post hurtful comments on purpose. I mean, so what if it's not RE? You draw what makes you happy/ grow as an artist. But yeah, people here on DA seem so much nicer as a whole probably due to being fellow artists and understanding the kind of work that goes into making something so often overlooked, such as a background.
